Maybe JACOB is Ben's real father and he found out about it while on the Island. That maybe a good reason why he wants to protect the island and keep it out of view from the rest of the world.. Too late for that seeing as Jack made the call. Unless thats just an alternate reality.

I just have to say that Sayid may very well be the coolest (not to mention hottest) human alive. He snapped someone's neck while tied up!! As for the rest of the show, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around everything else we've just discovered. But, like you said, we've got 8 months to think it over! Oh, the torture!!

OH MAN Alex & I have some pretty insightful findings into LOST. We looked up the origin of the name JACOB which is biblical... here are some facts about Bible Jacob:
Now, why the HECK didn't Charlie just swim through the little hole in the glass? Idiot. But nice moment.
charlie didn't swim into the hole because there was water pouring at fast, why don't u try and swim into a vacuum? He didn't close the door from the outside because there wasn't an air lock from the outside.
2. Shock. That was clearly conveyed by Dominic's portrayal: he stood there for several precious seconds in the dawning realization that, yes, he was going to die.

If a person stays rational & keeps her/his head, then that person can respond to a crisis intelligently. However, people often do not behave as rationally as they should due to emotional feelings. And Charlie's judgement was clouded at that moment.

i agree with u folks saying that in 'through the looking glass' a future that will not occur is displayed. i also think that, in the coffin, there lied joseph, somehow affiliated to ben. we don't know him yet, but we will surely encounter this character in season 4.

I'm on the hunt for some easter eggs now (I like to at least enjoy the episode before pausing every ), so I'll get back with anything good ASAP, and naturally episode blog tomorrow. In the meantime, think about the future Jack and Kate (I bet Fox and Lilly are loving the job security right now), think about Desmond and Penny (how'd she phone so quick), think about Naomi (who the hell are her team then if they're not working for Penny?!), and think about dear Charlie and heroic Hurley.
What will happen next? The Others on the run, some with the Losties, a new array of cast members from Naomi's ship (all bad guys). No point scratching my head too much today, I've got eight months to make sense of it.

I think that naomi's people are from darma initiative and they are trying to get the island back from Ben and his people. That's why Ben is so scarred of anyone finding the island. The island has something special althoough the writers havent seemed to answer any questions about that yet.
Charlie did not swim through the port-hole because it is smaller than his shoulders. I think, anyways.

even if this action took a little longer than charlie just shutting the door and the water did begin to pour in before charlie got out. surely he and desmond would have been able to push the door shut. the water pressue pouring through a hole smaller than charlie's shoulder span could not have caused that much pressure that quickly (one second or less).
Why didn't Charlie swim through the hole in the "glass?" Let's do the math. Have you ever tried swimming through a vaccum?

Charlie's behavior was very believable; this is not to say that the people behind Lost have _never_ made a goof.
I too was confused about Charlie's decision to not swim through the portal, or even open the door. My first instinct was, yeah, he thinks it's his destiny to drown, in order to fulfill Desmond's vision, and ensure Claire gets on the helicopter. But now that he knows Naomi is a liar, wouldn't he NOT want her to get on a helicopter?

I don't think Charlie would have fit thru the hole - it was just as big as Patchy's head. The ending for Charlie was very touching and real.
I do believe that the Losties (Jack, Kate and Co.) will soon have the opportunity to change this future of theirs. It does not seem as though all of the Lostaways got off the island.
never mind swimming back out of the portal. charlie could have run out the door and shut it behind himself and desmond, saving them both.
